September 15th. 2009 Prizes for the 13th Mattia International Poetry Competition are as follows: First Place --$100.00 CAD Second Place --$50.00 CAD Third Place -- $25.00 CAD Our prize money for this competition will remain as it was for the first 10 competition. As usual we pay in Canadian dollars. All prizes are paid by The Mattia Family. We have a love of poetry. Again this competition is FREE! Open to anyone, anywhere. We pick the poems that move to the judging round and post them on our "Fina-List" page. That's right, you're auditioning every time you enter. Once you've made the "Fina-List" you can only appear once . . . one poem in the finals per poet is the rule. READ THIS PAGE CAREFULLY before going to the competition board. Poems posted will be read daily, and chosen poems will be added to the "Fina-List" page as frequently as possible. When your poem is deleted from the board, it is gone, we do not keep deleted poems. Of course you retain all the rights to your work . . . and we will never give out your e-mail address. A FEW ADDED WORDS Keeping in mind that we end up with approximately 1000 poems for each competition - we need to have rules. For this competition we will not accept questions via e-mail, we believe any questions are answered by reading this page. 1. SHORT POEMS ONLY (UNDER 100 WORDS) for this competition. No foul language - good poetry doesn't need it. 2. Some policies have been changed in order to better serve poets and readers . Poems must be under 100 words. Poets with 100 words or more should look for competitions that will accept longer poems. The best written poetry for this type of competition usually has 100 words or less. More than 100 words means - your entry will be deleted. You must also have a valid E-mail address to enter the competition, or your entry will be removed. 3. Posting poems using all capital letters means . . . deletion of your poem. You cannot enter more than (1) poem per day. Anyone posting more than one poem . . . will have all   their entries deleted. 4. ONLY IF YOU MAKE THE " FINA-LIST" - Submit your full real name, your e-mail address, and only the title of the poem to the e-mail address on the main page at the bottom. You may use a "nom de plume", but,   your real name will also be published  if you are a winner. 5.Your submission means you acknowledge the work submitted is your own, and, you understand that you have given us the right to publish your poem on our Website. 6. SPELLING/GRAMMATICAL ERRORS, except when clearly taken in artistic license, will result in removal of the piece and may be resubmitted once corrections have been made. We expect all entrants to at least use "Spell Check" if not . . . the dictionary. (US/Canadian/British English) 7. Published poets, previous entrants, winners, and honourable mentions are welcome to enter this competition. 8. To avoid delay in publishing winners on our Website, poets will have four (4) days to acknowledge our e-mail advising them as a winner. If we have not received an e-mail reply in this time period, the poet will retain the awarded rank, but . . . no prize money will be paid. 9. Our competition has ZERO tolerance for errors on the poetry board. Deletions will be made without explanation - check your spelling and grammar before re-posting, if you see your poem has been deleted. 10. All decisions by our judges are final. We reserve the right to close or cancel this competition at any time-at our discretion.
