SUNDAY NITE AT THE MARKET

What if I’m past the past now
What if I’m now, just done with it all
Do I get a break and get to change everyone’s mind
About what I’d done before I asked
What if I’m past the past now
How come all the memories around me are longer than mine
How come there ain’t no distance between the last time I did right and wrong
That I couldn’t fair myself right for measurement
Don’t they all have bad steps too
Ain’t they got some day they can’t take away
What if I’m past the past now
What if I, somehow, just moved on
Shouldn’t everyone have to hang on
Just kind’a move along
Without worrying ‘bout what ball I threw to begin with
Where would it go anyway
Would it fall in some yard, or on some roof, that I don’t ever get to retrieve it from
I can’t be that, can I be that done
What if I’m past that now
What if my, ‘what if it’s’ are all just simply done now
Do I get a break and get to change everyone’s mind
